Sky Class (Year 1)

Welcome to Sky Class! Our teacher is Mrs Juniper.

Get to know: Mrs Juniper

  • Here are five amazing facts about Mrs Juniper:

    • She loves swimming. My favourite place to swim is in the sea pool in Bude! (Even in the winter!)
    • Her favourite food is probably a curry but as most of you know I am also never far away from a packet of wine gums!
    • She has a beagle called Merlin who she loves taking to the park.
    • Her favourite colour is purple but you will also often see her wearing yellow clothes as that is another favourite.
    • She loves travelling to new places and when she was younger she taught in a school in Uganda where there were 60 children in a class!

Please hear your child read their phonic book and complete their phonics sheet each evening and write a comment in their reading record every day. Please return it to school in the phonics folder.

Children will be set challenges on Numbots and they are expected to login 3 times a week.

Upcoming Trips and Events:

The curriculum for Sky Class is enriched with trips every term. You will be notified with a digital letter to share each trip's details. You will always be required to give your consent for the trip and you may also need to order a packed lunch from the school or pay a small charge (for example, for entry to a museum or workshop).

Sky Class Trips, Events and Workshops

June 2025 - Author Visit at the Rose Theatre The children had the opportunity to meet the Tracey Corderoy and Steven Lenton who are the author and illustrator of the famous Shifty McGifty series of books. The children asked questions and became illustrators themselves, producing character images.

May 2025 - Steam Train at Kempton As part of our History curriculum we were learning about how transport changes over time. We had the opportunity to visit and experience a ride on a steam train and the children listened intently to the experts and asked some very interesting questions.

January 2025 - London Zoo   As part of our Science curriculum the children learn about different animals. As part of this learning Sky class visited London Zoo. The children were amazed to be able to get so close to wild animals. One of the other highlights was the Butterfly House when one of the butterflies landed on one of our children's hands.

November 2024 - Hounslow Urban Farm In the Autumn term the children focus on the text 'What The Ladybird Heard' which is set on a farm. In order to immerse the children into the book, we visited the farm and the children experienced an animal encounter and feed many of the the larger animals.
